Elanela Rolston, 1980 in Rolston et al. (1980): 125–126, figs. 8, 12–13; Grazia & Greve, 2011: 261–262.
Type species. Elanela hevera Rolston, 1980 by original designation.
Description. Body castaneous with brown punctuations. Lateral margin of each mandibular plate outlined in black; each buccula with black, longitudinal stripe with a row of deep punctures basally; distal half of antennal articles IV and V black. Legs yellow, area surrounding each setae brown; scutellum with small yellow calluses on each basal angle and on basal margin medially; disc of scutellum black, reddish, or ivory, calloused; corium of hemelytra black medially, radial vein with a subapical yellow spot; membrane of hemelytra infuscate. Outline of each abdominal urosternite black.
Head wider than long, strongly sloping ventrally; apex of each mandibular plate not surpassing clypeus; margins of mandibular plates strongly concave before eyes; posterior margin of each buccula rounded; first labial segment surpassing bucculae; first antennal segment stout; proportion of antennal segments variable. Pronotum trapezoidal; anterolateral margins straight; humeral angles rounded; posterior margin slightly convex, nearly straight; apex of scutellum obtuse; scutellum shorter than corium; apex of corium rounded, reaching posterior margin of abdominal segment VI; femora unarmed; mesosternum carinate; metasternum produced, humped towards the midline, carinate anteriorly and bifurcate posteriorly; ostiole of metasternal gland elliptical, peritreme spout-shaped; evaporatorium covering most of mesopleura and metepisternum. Posterolateral angle of each connexivum acute.
Male genitalia. Ventral wall of pygophore impressed. Parameres covering segment X basally. Segment X elongate or quadrate; if quadrate, each posterolateral angle of segment X produced posteriorly. Phallus: conjunctiva absent, vesica reduced.
Female genitalia. Gonocoxites 8 covering most of gonocoxites 9. Each laterotergite 8 with a spiracle; posterior margin of laterotergite 8 with small process. Gonocoxites 9 flat or swollen.
Distribution. South America: Suriname (Paramaribo), French Guiana, Colombia (Amazonas), Ecuador (Napo), Peru (Loreto), Brazil (Amapá, Amazonas, Pará, Rondônia).
