sp. aff. vittata Wiedemann, 1820
1 male ( NHMUK). Distr.: Los Ríos Region: Valdivia Province (Valdivia) .
Ref.: Aubertin, 1930: 98 (descr.).
Comments. Aubertin (1930) reported a single male that she said was collected by Charles Darwin in Valdivia, Chile, and stated to be deposited in the British Museum (= NHMUK). She pointed out similarities between her specimen and Chiromyza vittata , although she believed it should be an undescribed taxon. Stuardo (1946: 62) might have assumed her specimen as C. vittata and included in his catalog, which is clearly an error, as he did not give a reference with a Chilean record of C. vittata , nor mentioned Aubertin (1930) as the source for his inclusion. The specimen still remains in the collection ( Fig. 72 View FIGURES 69–72 ) but have not been examined nor mentioned in subsequent studies.
