Material examined

Holotype female: Wadi Taww (23° 34' N 58° 01'E), Oman, collected with Bou­Rouche pump, 23 March 1996, leg. J.H. Stock ( ZMAN). GoogleMaps

Description

Female: Body 721 long and 583 wide. Body soft, dorsum without platelets, eyes absent. First coxal plates separated medially. Three pairs of acetabula, first pair of acetabula separated from second and third pair, margins of genital field indistinct; gonopore 150 long. Length of PI­PV: 30, 110, 84, 124, 53. Peg­like seta of PII thin, located disto­ventrally and somewhat distanced from ventral margin. PIV with two bifid setal tubercles. Lengths of I­leg­4­6: 110, 120, 112. Lengths of IV­leg­4­6: 176, 216, 190. Claws of legs I­ III simple, without clawlets. IV­leg­6 with a small claw, terminal seta 64 long. Legs without swimming setae.

Male: unknown.

Etymology Named after the collector of the material Prof. Dr. J. H. Stock.

Remarks

The new species is characterised by its reduced number of setal tubercles on PIV. All other members of the genus are bearing five or more setal tubercles on this segment. Cook (1980) considered five setal tubercles as the typical number. It is also the only member of the genus without dorsal platelets.
