The valid type species fixation is that of Duponchel (1841), who selected Scarabaeus tetradactylus Linnaeus, 1771 View in CoL , but that species is currently placed in the genus Macraspis MacLeay, 1819 View in CoL . An application to the Commission is necessary to fix Scarabaeus virens Drury, 1773 View in CoL as the type species of Anticheira Eschscholtz, 1818 View in CoL .
