4. Adelencyrtus bifasciatus (Ishii) View in CoL

( Figs 16−19 View FIGURES 16 − 19. 16 − 19 )

Anabrolepis bifasciata Ishii, 1923: 106 View in CoL . Holotype Ψ (in Ishii’s collection, not examined), Japan.

Adelencyrtus bifasciatus View in CoL ; Compere & Annecke, 1961: 57; Tachikawa, 1963: 161−165; Hayat et al., 1975: 78; Trjapitzin, 1989: 291; Zhang & Huang, 2004: 22; Xu & Huang, 2004: 35; Hayat, 2006: 106, 108.

Description. Female. Body length 1.0− 1.8 mm. Body dark brown with green or blue sheen; antenna ( Fig. 16 View FIGURES 16 − 19. 16 − 19 ) generally dark or dark brown but last funicular segment yellowish and sometimes fifth funicular segment yellowish apically; fore wing strongly infuscate as in Fig. 17 View FIGURES 16 − 19. 16 − 19 ; coloration of legs similar to A. biannulatus (see above) but mid femur more broadly (at least apical half) dark brown ( Fig. 18 View FIGURES 16 − 19. 16 − 19 ).

Head. Frontoverex 1/5−1/4 head width; ocelli arranged in an acute triangle of often more than 30°; posterior ocellus touching inner eye margin, and separated from occipital margin by nearly 4 × its own diameter; antenna with scape subcylindrical or very slightly expanded, about 4.2 × as long as broad; F1−F3 transverse, each clearly smaller than F4; F4−F6 subquadrate; clava about as long as funicle; mandible quadridentate or with two teeth and an upper truncation ( Tachikawa 1963b, fig. 70).

Thorax. Fore wing about 2.4 × as long as broad; marginal vein long, about 4 × as long as broad; stigmal vein about half as long as marginal vein; postmarginal vein short, slightly longer than half as long as stigmal vein ( Fig. 17 View FIGURES 16 − 19. 16 − 19 ).

Gaster. Ovipositor sheaths ( Fig. 19 View FIGURES 16 − 19. 16 − 19 ) slightly exserted, by about 1/8−1/7 gaster length.

Relative measurements. MT 55, OL 70, GL 22.

Male. Generally similar to female except for antennae and genitalia.

Hosts. Aonidiella aurantii (Maskell) , Lindingaspis setiger (Maskell) , Melanaspis glomerata (Green) , Pinnaspis sp., Pseudaonidia duplex (Cockerell) ( Agarwal 1959; Hayat 1986; Trjapitzin 1989; Noyes 2002).

Distribution. Bangladesh, China, India, Japan, Taiwan, USA (Hawaii) ( Hayat 1986; Trjapitzin 1989; Noyes 2002).

Material examined. CHINA: Hunan, 17.vii.1992, ex. Pseudaonidia sp. on Citrus sp., coll. H.W. Browning (det. J.S. Noyes) (1 Ψ, BMNH). Sichuan, Chengdu, 13.viii.2003, coll. Y.Z. Zhang (2 ΨΨ); Jintang, 11.vii.1963, coll. D.X. Liao (1 Ψ, 1 ɗ); Qixian, 6.iv1981, coll. Q.Q. Chen (11 ΨΨ). Zhejiang, Hangzhou, 16.vi.1964, ex. coccids on tea, coll. D.X. Liao (2 ΨΨ, 3 ɗɗ).

Comments. Adelencyrtus bifasciatus is close to A. biannulatus (see comments for this species) and A. bimaculatus Alam (1972) from India. In A. bimaculatus , F1 and F2 are subequal in size and smaller than F3, the mid femur is yellowish-white, and the mid tibia has a small dark brown patch in its basal 1/3.
