Genus group Euderomphale View in CoL View at ENA

Included genera: Cabeza , Euderomphale , Monterrondo , Neopomphale , Xenopomphale . This genus group also includes the genera Pomphale Husain, Rauf and Kudeshia and Baeoentedon Girault from Asia and Australia (not treated here, see LaSalle and Schauff, 1994).

Distribution Cosmopolitan.

Hosts Whiteflies in the subfamily Aleyrodinae ( Hemiptera : Aleyrodidae ).

Diagnosis

Vertexal suture present, in Neotropical species running between anterior and posterior ocelli (figures 13, 18); malar sulcus usually present, sometimes absent; occiput with a transverse groove in upper part and with a median longitudinal groove between occipital margin and occipital foramen (figure 75); eyes ± hairy (figures 11, 17); thoracic dorsum flattened; mid lobe of mesoscutum with zero to two pair of setae; axillae placed entirely anterior to scuto-scutellar sulcus, either fused to mesoscutum (figure 21) or separated by a sulcus (figure 13) or a wide groove (figure 5); scutellum distinctly wider than long, with one or two pairs of setae; submarginal vein usually with two setae on dorsal surface; with a distinct break between submarginal and marginal veins (e.g. figures 60–64).

Monophyly

We follow the interpretation of this genus group put forward by LaSalle and Schauff (1994). The monophyly of this group is supported by two apomorphies: the presence of a transverse vertexal suture and the transverse scutellum. The vertexal suture is unique to this genus group, and a strong apomorphy. The transverse scutellum is also present in the Aleuroctonus genus group. The incorporation of three new genera does not change the definition of this group, although the variation of some characters is extended: the vertexal suture is absent in Monterrondo , the malar sulcus is absent in Xenopomphale , the clypeus is undelimited in Monterrondo and very weakly delimited in Xenopomphale , mid lobe of mesoscutum lacks setae in Cabeza , and submarginal vein has one, two or three setae in Cabeza .
