Redescription. Length 5.9–6.8 mm, width 2.3–2.6 mm. General color ( Figs 21 View FIGURE 21 A–21C) black; antennomeres IX–XI white, but XI apically or entirely darkened; elytra metallic blue. Antennae filiform in males, but antennomeres VI–VIII strongly swollen, IX and X with small processes at middle of lateral margins ( Fig. 22A View FIGURE 22 ), length ratios of antennomeres I–XI 1.0: 0.3: 0.7: 0.9: 1.0: 1.0: 1.0: 1.0: 0.8: 0.8: 1.2, length to width ratios of antennomeres I–XI 2.8: 1.3: 2.4: 2.9: 2.7: 2.4: 2.4: 2.4: 2.8: 2.9: 4.6; filiform in females ( Fig. 22B View FIGURE 22 ), VI–VII relatively broader, length ratios of antennomeres I–XI 1.0: 0.3: 0.7: 0.9: 0.9: 0.8: 0.8: 0.8: 0.7: 0.7: 0.9, length to width ratios of antennomeres I–XI 3.1: 1.4: 2.9: 3.2: 3.1: 2.7: 2.6: 3.2: 3.4: 3.4: 4.1. Elytra elongate and parallel-sided, 1.9x longer than wide; disc with dense, coarse punctures, arranged into longitudinal rows, with one distinct longitudinal ridge between two longitudinal rows of punctures. Tarsomeres I of front legs swollen in males; subparallel in females. Aedeagus ( Figs 22 View FIGURE 22 C–22E) relatively slender, 7.9x longer than wide; sides widest at apical 1/4, gradually narrowed towards basal 1/4, abruptly narrowed subapically, apex with deep, narrow median notch from apex to apical 1/7, forming a pair of slender tubes; tectum triangular; ventral surface with deep notch from apical 1/10 to middle, abruptly widened at apical 1/7; triangular sclerites elongate; internal sac with one median, elongate sclerite, parallel-sided, basally and dorsally covered with one pair of elongate and apically tapering sclerites, large, as long as median sclerite, with one pair of lateral clusters of stout setae located subapically, and one pair of lateral hook-like sclerites at middle. Gonocoxae ( Fig. 22G View FIGURE 22 ) elongate, widest at apical 1/6, both gonocoxae combined together from basal 1/6 to apical 1/8; apices narrowly rounded, each gonocoxa with eight setae along outer margin from apex to apical 1/6; with one pair of short lateral processes at basal 2/5. Ventrite VIII ( Fig. 22F View FIGURE 22 ) elongate; disc with several long setae laterally and near apical margin, and with dense, short setae along apical margin; spiculum extremely slender. Receptacle of spermatheca ( Fig. 22H View FIGURE 22 ) strongly swollen; pump slender and strongly curved; proximal spermathecal duct deeply inserted into receptacle, narrow and short.

Variation. A distinct color variation does occur in populations from West Malaysia: general color reddish brown except for antennae and elytra of the same color as the typical form, tibiae and tarsi darkened, antennomeres XI apically darkened ( Figs 21D, 21E View FIGURE 21 ). This color form was described as a new variety of Theopea elegantula : T. elegantula var. fulvorufa by Medvedev (2002). Both color patterns also occur in Sumatra but the legs are entirely reddish brown and antennomeres XI entirely white ( Fig. 21F View FIGURE 21 ).

Diagnosis. Specimens of T. pulchella are similar to those of T. fairmairei in possessing distinct longitudinal ridges on the elytra, but the former is restricted to West Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore, and Sumatra ( T. fairmairei is distributed in Borneo, Sumatra and Java,), and possesses a long-tube apex of the aedeagus and an internal sac with one pair of clustered setae and one pair of hook-like sclerites (narrowly rounded apex of aedeagus and internal sac with two pairs of clustered setae in T. pulchella ).

Distribution. West Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore, and Indonesia (Sumatra).
