Subgenus Haplochlaenius Lutshnik, 1933

Chlaenius (Haplochlaenius) costiger Chaudoir, 1856 View in CoL

Chaudoir described this species from Hong Kong specimens, he acquired from Schaum. Also listed as occurring in Hong Kong by Chaudoir (1876b), Gemminger & Harold (1868), Bates (1873a) and Kirschenhofer (2014). Biology: Chaudoir (1876b) notes that this was a common species in Hong Kong, though appears not to be so now.

Chlaenius (Haplochlaenius) flavofemoratus flavofemoratus Laporte, 1834 View in CoL

A junior synonym of this species, Chlaenius nigricoxis Motschulsky 1865 View in CoL , was described from specimens originating in Hong Kong and was listed by Gemminger & Harold (1868), Chaudoir (1876b) and Bates (1892) under that name as occurring in Hong Kong. Andrewes (1919a), Lee & Winney (1981), Hua (2002), Kirschenhofer (2003a) list this species for Hong Kong. Material: Sight record 1 ex. W.T.L., 9.iv.14; Sight record ♀ W.T.L., 11.iv.14; Sight record ♀ W.T.L., 1.iv.14; 1 ex. W.T.L., 16.iv.13; 1 ex. W.T.L., 30.iv.11; 1 ex. 1.v.11; sight record W.T.L., 7.v.13; 1 ex. Hong Kong, Sha Lo Tung, 28-31.v.2015, Winkler extractor, Leg. R.Ho Lee & Y.Luo; 1 ex. Hong Kong, Pak Tam Chung, 5-8.vi.15, pitfall trap, Leg. R.Ho Lee & Y.Luo; 1 ex. Hong Kong, 2.viii.07 (Leg. Yiu Vo). Biology: Imago found April to August. Can be attracted to light, it is fully winged and capable of flight. Most surprisingly for such a large species, can be caught in both pitfall traps and Winkler extractor. Subgenus Lissauchenius W.S. MacLeay, 1825

Chlaenius (Lissauchenius) bimaculatus lynx Chaudoir, 1856

Chaudoir described Chlaenius lynx from a Hong Kong specimen given to him by Dohrn. Redtenbacher (1867) recorded Chlaenius bimaculatus Dejean 1826 View in CoL from Hong Kong, though Andrewes (1924) determined Redtenbacher's specimen as Chlaenius lynx Chaudoir 1856 . Listed as occurring in Hong Kong by Gemminger & Harold (1868), Chaudoir (1876b) and Park et.al. (2006). Mandl (1983) and Kirschenhofer (1997 & 2003a) list this taxa as Chlaenius (Lissauchenius) rufifemoratus lynx Chaudoir 1856 View in CoL , and make no mention of bimaculatus View in CoL . Material: 1 ex. Hong Kong, Lantau, Pui O, 20.ii.15; Sight record W.T.L., 28.iv.15; Ƌ & ♀W.T.L., 12.v.15; 1 ex. Hong Kong, 23.v.07 (Leg. Yiu Vor); 1 ex. Hong Kong, Lam Tsuen valley, 2.vi.12 netted from bushes close to stream; 1 ex. W.T.L., 6.vi.13; 1 ex. Yiu Vor); Sight record ♀ W.T.L., 28.viii.14; Ƌ W.T.L., 27.ix.14. Biology: Imago found February to September. It seems to live in well vegetated areas, probably close to water. Can be attracted to light, it is fully winged and capable of flight.

Chlaenius (Lissauchenius) tetragonoderus Chaudoir, 1876 View in CoL

New record for Hong Kong. Chaudoir (1876b) originally described this species from what is now Indonesia. The macula at the apex of the elytra is very variable in shape from almost circular to a transverse linear line. Material: Ƌ W.T.L., 12.iii.09; 1 ex. and Ƌ.
