Xyleborus insignis Browne, 1984: 452 View in CoL . n. syn.
Diagnosis: Elytral declivity steeply truncate, with a finely granulate costa extending around the shining, circular face, declivital striae with large, closely placed, shallow punctures, second interstriae raised with three widely spaced, small, pointed tubercles. Eyes with lower part larger than upper part. Anterior margin of pronotum with 6‒8 separate asperities. Small species, 4.0‒ 4.5 mm long.
Taxonomy: The senior author has examined the holotype of I. insignis (NHML) and photographs of the lectotype of I. desectus (USNM). There are no significant differences between the two species. I. insignis is therefore placed in synonymy with I. desectus .
Distribution: Indonesia (Java), Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam.
New record: Thailand, Nakhon Ratchasima, Khao Yai NP, Haew Narok, EtOH trap, 18.iv.2018, S. Sanguansub (SSC, 1).
Biology: Recorded from Albizia and Castanospermum (Leguminosae) ( Kalshoven 1959, Browne 1984). The gallery system is branched and lies in one transverse plane ( Kalshoven 1959). Brood sizes appear to be small. Kalshoven (1959) recorded two galleries in which some offspring had already become adult, with only 8 and 9 offspring respectively.
