The Atractodes propodeator species-group
Diagnosis. Propodeum with a short dorsal face and a flat posterior face sloped abruptly downwards; posterior part of area basalis strongly elevated, almost reaching the level of postscutellum in lateral view ( Fig. 2 View FIGURE 2 A); junction of posterior transverse carina and lateral longitudinal carina forming an angulate crest ( Fig. 2 View FIGURE 2 A); median area of propodeum strongly strigose transversally ( Figs 6 View FIGURE 6 C–F); apex of scutellum with vertical wrinkles ( Figs 6 View FIGURE 6 C–F); central flagellomeres of female, usually thicker than the distal ones ( Figs 4 View FIGURE 4 B–C).
Remarks. This species-group comprises some of the largest Atractodes species, reaching a body length of 9– 12.6 mm. The species are distributed from South Mexico to Ecuador and Brazil, inhabiting areas between 1000 and 2400 m.a.s.l.
