subgen. nov. |
Subgenus Sternoppia (Andoppia) subgen. nov.
Type species: Sternoppia (Andoppia) tetratuberculata sp. nov.
Subgeneric diagnosis. With character states of Sternoppia (as above). Bothridial seta bacilliform, with slightly developed, not ciliated head.
Etymology. The subgeneric name refers to the place of origin (Andes) + ‘ oppia ’, a common suffix for generic and subgeneric names in Oppioidea.
Remarks. The morphology of bothridial setae often used in Oppioidea as generic or subgeneric trait (e.g., Subías & Balogh 1989; Balogh & P. Balogh 2002). Sternoppia (Andoppia) tetratuberculata and representatives of Sternoppia (Sternoppia) are morphologically very similar in all morphological characters (except bothridial seta), therefore, we previously proposed a new subgenus (not genus).
