Thyatira Hedemanni Christoph, 1885 View in CoL , Mémoires sur les Lépidoptères 2: 24, pl. 2, fig. 3.
Type locality: [ Georgia] ”de Lagodekhi… à Helenendorf et Koussari” [Lagodekhi after the lectotype] .
Present status: Thyatira hedemanni Christoph, 1885 : Thyatirini .
Taxonomic remarks: Can be confused in nature with a dark montane form phaea Dannehl, 1926, of Thyatira batis (Linnaeus, 1758) which has shorter and wider fore wings.
Nomenclatural notes: The specimens were collected by L. Mlokossewitsch (who was a forester in Lagodekhi) “en grande quantité de Lagodekhi … en Mai, Juin et Août”, and several specimens were attracted to a lamp “à Helenendorf et Koussari” by H. Leder. All of them should therefore be considered original syntypes of Thyatira hedemanni Christoph, 1885 . Of these, only 6 are found in ZISP ; it is known that part of H. Christoph’s collection had been sold, exchanged or presented by himself to different European collections. The most famous among them are the Museums of Germany ( ZMHU in Berlin) and of England ( NHML) .
A specimen from Lagodekhi in the coll. of NHML was designated lectotype of Thyatira hedemanni Christoph, 1885 , by László & al. (2007: 46). This was a male apparently hatched on 21[.]12[.][18]85: this date is later than the date of publication of the corresponding volume of Mémoires sur les Lépidoptères (Band 2) in which the taxon description was published. From the dates, this specimen cannot be part of the original type series and therefore this designation is invalid. We are therefore correcting the situation under articles 74.2 and 74.1 of the Code by designating the lectotype of the taxon here. We choose a specimen in fine condition (coll. ZISP: cabinet 217/drawer 5) which is supplied with the following labels: a small blue circle without any inscription, a small quadrat (so called a Christoph’s label) with wide black frame and Christoph’s inscription in black ink « ♂ | Lagod.» and«22 6 80 | Mlok» on the reverse, and a white rectangle with a printed text «Колл. Вел. Кн. | НиколаЯ | Михайловича» [“Collection of the Grand Duke Nikolay Mikhailovich”]. The specimen is actually a female (tip of ovipositor is visible, and it bears two dried eggs) although Christoph treated it as a male, and is supplied with a red lectotype label and corresponding text: “ Lectotypus ♀ ” and inscription: “ Thyatira | hedemanni Chr. | Design. V.G. Mironov | et V. V. Zolotuhin, 2019”. Another 5 syntypes (3♂♂ and 2♀♀ from Lagodekhi) kept in the same cabinet drawer 6 are designated paralecto- types of the taxon. They all have the same kind of labels and were collected on 4.6.79, 14.4.79, 10.7.82 (♂♂) and 7.5.80 and 22.5.80 (♀♀) according to the inscriptions on the reverses of the labels.
