Previous distribution. “Dowd Tablemount” (type locality; 13°28’N; 119°49’W), about 820 nautical miles off the west coast of the Baja California Peninsula ( Hanamura, 1984); Guaymas Basin (“Albatross” St. 3010, 27º23’45”N; 111º25’W) ( Chace, 1986); off the coast of Sinaloa ( Hendrickx & Estrada-Navarrete, 1996) and in the SE Gulf of California, off Sinaloa and Nayarit ( Hendrickx, 2003; Hendrickx & García-Guerrero, 2007); in the Gulf of California, off Mazatlán (22°47’N; 106°52’W), Sinaloa, and off Guaymas (26°45’N; 111°02’W), Sonora; off Bahía Magdalena (24°23’N; 112°17’W), SW tip of the Baja California Peninsula ( Hendrickx & Wicksten 2004).

New records. Off the West coast of the Baja California Peninsula, from off Isla Magdalena (25°02’N; 112°54’W) to a locality off Todos Santos (23°12’N; 111°20’W). Central and northern Gulf of California, with northernmost limit at 28°01’N; 112°17’W. SW coast of Mexico, from off Tenacatita, Jalisco (19°22’N; 105°16’W), to off Acapulco, Guerrero (16°58’N; 100°55’W).

General distribution. Including the new records cited in this contribution, Acanthephyra brevicarinata is now known from a large portion of the Pacific coast of Mexico, from 25°02’N, on the west coast of Baja California and 28°01’N, in the Gulf of California, to 16°58’N; off the SW coast of Mexico. Eastern Pacific, off Mexico and far out to sea (about 820 nautical miles) (ca 13°28’N; 119°49’W) (Fig. 1).

Remarks. Number of specimens of A. brevicarinata obtained in the sampling gear varied from 1 to a maximum of 14 (TALUD XII St. 24). The total number of specimens reported herein is 203. Of these, 12 could not be sexed. The rest consists of 84 males and 107 F (F:M, 1.27:1), of which 34 (32%) are ovigerous. The material examined included mostly large to medium–size specimens, and this might be related to the use of a relatively large mesh size (ca 2.0 cm internal lining net). Size (CL) in A. brevicarinata varied from 6.78 to 28.54 mm in males (average, 19.25± 5.18 mm), from 16.11 to 24.81 mm in non–ovigerous females (average, 8.22± 4.05 mm), and from 17.53 to 25.23 mm (average, 22.66± 1.97 mm) in ovigerous females.
