Type material examined: Holotype ♂ [plastic plate with aedeagus, abdominal tergite VIII, sternite VIII and apical segment in Canadian balsam was pinned under the plate with beetle]: ‘ NEPAL (Prov. Bagmati) | below Thare Pati | 3300 m, 9.IV.81 | Löbl & Smetana’ <rectangular label, printed>, ‘HOLOTYPE | Anthobium | ivani sp.n. | Shavrin A. & Smetana A. 2017’ <red rectangular label, printed> ( MHNG).

Paratypes (8 specimens): NEPAL: 1 ♂: same data as the holotype (MHNG); 1 ♀ [2 preparations of genital segment and abdominal tergite VIII, sternite VIII in Canadian balsam were pinned under the plate with beetle]: ‘NEPAL (Prov. Bagmati) | below Thare Pati | 3300 m, 10.IV.81 | Löbl & Smetana 18B’ <rectangular label, printed> (NSMT); 1 ♂, 1 ♀: ‘Nepal-Himalaya | Khumbu Himal | lg. O. Jäger 1995’ <rectangular label, printed>, ‘Tal d. Dudh Kosi | Panyali Drangka | b. Phakdinoma | 2700mNN, 27.11.’ <rectangular label, printed> (SNSD); BHUTAN: 3 ♀♀: ‘Bhutan | Thimphu [handwritten] | X.1980. | de Rougemont’ <rectangular label, printed>, <one specimen with additional rectangular printed label ‘ Lathrimaeum n.sp. [handwritten] | det. 198 | G. de Rougemont’ (CRG). All paratypes with additional red rectangular printed label: ‘PARATYPE | Anthobium | ivani sp.n. | Shavrin A. & Smetana A. 2017’.

Description. Measurements (n=9): HW: 0.82–0.90, HL: 0.52–0.56; AL (holotype): 1.63; OL: 0.25–0.28; PL: 0.62–0.69; PW: 1.25–1.32; ESL: 1.87–2.00; EW: 1.85–2.01; AW: 1.37–1.55; MTbL (holotype): 0.97; MTrL (holotype): 0.42 (MTrL 1–4: 0.27; MTrL 5: 0.15); AedL: 0.67; TL: 4.00(holotype)–4.71.

Reddish-brown to black; antennomeres 3–11 brown; lateral and basal margins of pronotum reddish-brown; mouthparts and legs yellow to reddish-brown; apical part of apical segment of maxillary palpi and antennomeres 1 and 2 yellow. Head with irregular sparse punctation, somewhat deeper and denser on posterior part of infraorbital ridges, sometimes middle part of head between grooves impunctated, only with several small punctures irregularly scattered in middle; middle part of neck with irregular small punctation; pronotum with punctation slightly larger and deeper than that on head, sometimes sparser and more irregular on posterio-median portion (some paratypes with extremely sparse and irregular punctation on middle elevation of pronotum, with several smoothed punctures on anterio-median portion and wide impunctated area in front of medio-basal impression and on anterior portion of pronotum). Habitus as in Fig. 69 View FIGURES 65–69 .

Head 1.5–1.6 times as wide as long; middle part of head and posterio-lateral parts of infraorbital ridges slightly elevated or distinctly flattened; middle part of head between grooves without or with small semicircular impression; grooves in front of ocelli reaching anterior third of length of eye. Apical segment of maxillary palp with moderately narrow basal part slightly widened medially. Measurements of antennomeres (holotypes): 1: 0.20 × 0.07; 2: 0.12 × 0.05; 3: 0.17 × 0.05; 4–6: 0.13 × 0.06; 7–8: 0.14 × 0.06; 9: 0.14 × 0.07; 10: 0.13 × 0.07; 11: 0.20 × 0.07.

Middle elevation of pronotum markedly convex, with deep semicircular impression in medio-basal third and sometimes with very convex parts behind impression.

Elytra approximately as wide as long, reaching basal margin of abdominal tergite V; lateral portions narrow, distinctly explanated.

Male. Apical margins of abdominal tergite VIII and sternite VIII slightly sinuate. Aedeagus ( Fig. 82 View FIGURES 80–83 ) very narrow, with more or less rounded apical part of median lobe; parameres wide and asymmetrical, with very wide left setiferous lobe, both lobes significantly curved mediad, with long apical and preapical setae; internal sac narrow. Aedeagus laterally as in Fig. 83 View FIGURES 80–83 .

Female. Apical margins of abdominal tergite VIII and sternite VIII rounded or straight.

Comparative notes. Based on the length of the body, shape of the pronotum with deep medio-basal impression, A. ivani sp.n. is similar to A. nigrum , from which it differs by shorter elytra, narrower apical part of the median lobe of the aedeagus, wider setiferous lobes of parameres significantly curved mediad, and by the details of the structure of the internal sac.

Distribution. The new species is known from several localities ( Fig. 74 View FIGURE 74 ) in central and northeastern Nepal and Kingdom of Bhutan.

Bionomics. Specimens from Nepal were collected at elevations 2700 to 3300 m a.s.l. by splashing water over gravel and stony banks of a creek, mostly in shaded areas, together with Ochthephilus sp. ( Oxytelinae ) and Anacaena sp. ( Hydrophilidae ).

Etymology. Patronymic, the species is named to honour our friend and colleague, the eminent coleopterist Ivan Löbl (Genève, Switzerland).
