The pore plates of male Heliothrips from Brazil studied by Wilson (1975) were described as transverse oblong.
These specimens bear the same field number (Hood No. 1540) as the type specimens of H. similis ( Nakahara et al. 2015) , and re-examination of these Hood specimens confirmed that the males are in fact H. similis .
