Dystus villosus Breddin, 1904a: 153 . Syntype (s): ♀, Bolivia; depository not given. Dystus villosus: Schouteden 1904: 54 (synonymy).
Type material examined. Lectotype (present designation): ♀, “ Bolivia \ Yungas de la \ Paz” [hw], “coll. \ Breddin”. Pinned, segments III–IV of left antenna lacking; deposited in SDEI ( Figs. 1–3 View FIGURES 1 – 6 ).
Discussion. The species was described based on an unspecified number of females from Bolivia. The depository of its type material has remained unknown so far. A single female belonging to the genus Dystus Stål, 1862 was found among unidentified scutellerids in SDEI. As it perfectly fits the original description of D. villosus and it is from the type locality, there is no doubt that it is a syntype and it is therefore designated as the lectotype of D. villosus .
The species was synonymized with D. puberulus Stål, 1862 by Schouteden (1904); we confirm the synonymy of the two species. The genus Dystus is currently monotypic; a photo of the only included species was given by Eger et al. (2015), ink drawings and descriptions of the adult and all preimaginal stages as well as the genital capsule and parameres of the male were provided by Cervantes Peredo (2004). The latter work also documents its host plant and life cycle.
Current status. Junior subjective synonym of Dystus puberulus Stål, 1862 .
