≡ Caesalpinia oblongifolia Urban (1900: 281) View in CoL . ≡ Caesalpinia pinnata subsp. oblongifolia (Urb.) Barreto & Beyra (1998: 182) View in CoL . ≡ Poincianella oblongifolia (Urb.) Britton & Rose (1930: 335) View in CoL .
Lectotype (designated by Barreto & Beyra 1998: 183): — CUBA. [Sancti Spíritus, “potrero Manatí, Trinidad ”], 1867 [26 March 1867], C. Wright 2360 p.p. (lectotype HAC [Herb. Sauvalle #571], isolectotypes? NY #74751 , NY #22784 , US #43246).
Diagnosis: — Cenostigma pinnatum subsp. oblongifolium is distinguished from the typical subspecies by its leaves with mostly five or more leaflet pairs (vs. mostly up to five leaflet pairs), cordate or cordate-truncate at base (vs. oblique), and ciliate on the margin (vs. non-ciliate).
Notes on lectotype: —In the protologue of Caesalpinia oblongifolia Urb. a holotype was not indicated, since it refers to part of the C. Wright 2360 collection, but not a single specimen, since a particular herbarium is not specified. Therefore, all the duplicates of C. Wright 2360 corresponding to this entity (without considering those that under the same C. Wright number belong to Cenostigma pinnatum subsp. pinnatum ) in the herbaria in which they are found are considered syntypes ( Turland & al. 2018: Article 40 Note 1). These elements were not considered by Barreto & Beyra (1998) when designating the material deposited in HAC as a lectotype, who carried out this nomenclatural act due to the destruction of the existing one in B considered as a holotype. However, regardless of the reason for the lectotypification carried out by Barreto & Beyra (1998), it is valid.
