Diagnosis: One of the two obvious species in the spinipes group, only one with a dark pleura, including the katepisternum; protarsal spines unique, all nearly equal in size; apex of abdomen dark (including epandrium), hypandrium nearly square, aedeagus thick, short, with ventral extension and fine scales medially, no lateral serrations.

Description: Body coloration mostly typical of group but with unique distinctions, i.e., katepisternum and meron same dark brownish-black as dorsum, but with faint pollinosity (the small katatergite and laterotergite are lighter). Protarsomere 1 and 2 nearly equal in length, each with 4 spines, all nearly equal in length and width except for no. 6 (on tarsomere 1), which is approximately 1.25x the size of others; spines 2, 4, 5, and 7 not reduced in size. Male terminalia: Surstylus with typical array of ca. 16 spine-like prensisetae, including 2 large dorsalmost ones that point inward. Subepandrial sclerite large, boat-shaped, with narrow anterior arms. Hypandrium approximately rectangular; length of aedeagus + aedeagal apodeme less than total length of hypandrium. Postgonite flat, not lobate; hypandrial lobes each with setula. Aedeagus distinctive: in dorsoventral view distiphallus broadened, width slightly greater than shaft, labiate; with fine medial scales (not spicules), with minute serrations dorsoapically; in lateral view distiphallus hoodlike, extended ventrally into a lobe, length of phallus approximately same length as aedeagal apodeme. Female unknown. Measurements: HS12, HS24: Head: HD/HW 0.77; FL/LFW 1.23; VB2/VB1 0.87; EW/ED 0.69; OR2/OR1 0.97 (0.94–1.00); OR3/OR1 1.08 (1.05–1.12); OC/POC 1.67 (1.63–1.72); FW/FD 0.51; ODB/ODA 0.39 (0.37–0.41). Thorax: ThL 1.02 mm. (0.99–1.04); UPS/LHS 0.79 (0.75–0.84); LHS/ThL 0.24; ADC/PDC 0.45 (0.42–0.48); AKE/PKE 0.56 (0.51–0.62); LF1/LF2 0.81.

Holotype: Male, HS-24 “ Kenya, Kericho, 10.XI.83, A. Freidberg. ” Minute double-mounted, genitalia dissected by DG; in TAU.

Other Specimens: Paratype, Male HS-12, “ Kenya, Tartar 30 km N. Kitale, 4–5.XI.83, A. Freidberg. ” Minuten double-mounted, genitalia not dissected; in TAU .

Etymology: “Black spinipes,” in reference to the dark pleura.
