Drosophila View in CoL sp. B
Figs. 2 View FIGURE 2 E–F, 6B, 7J
Specimen: Female, HS05: “ Mwenda , Mt. Ruwenzori, Congo Belge / Dec. 11, 1948, 1400 m. forest, J. C. Bradley. ” Genitalia dissected by DG; in AMNH .
Like D. suma the oviscapt of this specimen has the distinctive feature of 5 pegs in the ventral series, one difference being an anterior reclinate significantly longer than the proclinate (OR2/OR1 1.26, vs. <1.1). Otherwise, we are unable to determine if specimen HS-05 and suma are conspecific. Measurements: Head: HD/HW 0.76; FL/ LFW 1.27; EW/ED 0.74; OR2/OR1 1.26; OR3/OR1 1.20; OC/POC 1,70; FW/FD 0.52; ODB/ODA 0.36; Thorax: ThL 0.97 mm.; UPS/LHS 0.78; LHS/ThL 0.20; ADC/PDC 0.42; AKE/PKE 0.48; LF1/LF2 0.75.
FIGURE 2. Distinct or apomorphic features of the Drosophila spinipes species group. A. Lateral view, sp. C (HS-13). B. Same as A, with detail of mouthparts. C. D. nigrospinipes n. sp. (HS-12), dorsolateral view of thorax, showing setal tubercles and spiracular channel. D. Wing, D. malagasy n. sp. (HS-21). Arrow indicates end of dense costal spinules. E-F. SEM of protarsal spines, mesal view of specimen HS-14 (sp. B). Note the shallow longitudinal grooves.
