( Figs 9 View FIGURES 9 – 11 –12)

Description. Male. Head: frons ( Fig. 9 View FIGURES 9 – 11 ) brown. One pair of supraantennal setae present. Antials as far from the eye margin as from the median furrow. Antero-, medio-, and posterolaterals close to eye margin, mediolaterals closer to anterolaterals, than posterolaterals. Ocellar setae reclinate, close to each other. Many small setulae emerging on frons. Furrow around the ocellar triangle relatively deep. Palps yellowish, with four short setae. First flagellomere enlarged, reniform ( Fig. 10 View FIGURES 9 – 11 ). Thorax: brownish. Anepisternum bare. Scutellum with anterior pair of hair-like setulae and a posterior pair of setae. Legs: yellowish, pale. Last tarsal segments elongated, but only a slightly pointed. Hair palisade on mid tibia extends through the whole length. Wings: 1.1–1.2 mm long. Vein R2+3 absent or very faint, scarcely discernible ( Fig. 11 View FIGURES 9 – 11 ). Subcosta short, not reaching costa. Two axillary setae present. Haltera entirely pale. Abdomen: Abdominal tergites brown with light caudal margin. Few microtrichia on the tergites. Ventrally yellow and bare, without conspicuous sclerotized sternites. Anal tube yellowish, epandrium and hypandrium brown, covered by dense microtrichia (Fig. 12). Setae on cerci as long as those on epandrium.

Affinities. The male of M. rivierae is very similar in habitus to the female. It can be distinguished from the other Microselia species by the hair palisade on mid tibia which reaches the apical part of the segment and by the shape of left lobe of epandrium. The male specimens were collected together with a female (see faunistic data). Material examined. Israel: 1 3, Nizzanim, C1, 01.II.2004 C. Grach; 3, same but D1; 2 3, same but D7 ( TAU).
