Etymology: This name refers to the abundance of this widespread species (Latin ‘abundantia’: abundance).

Comments: B. abundantia is the most common species of the basal lineages, and has a remarkably wide range that extends from the southern tip of South America to the southwestern United States. It can be easily identified and differentiated from similar species by the shorter row of setae on S5 and the form of the male cercus. Male cerci of dried B. abundantia speciemens are usually extended laterally but can sometimes be flexed inwards.
