Type species: Alloteratura backer Hebard, 1922 , by original designated.
Diagnosis. Apical segment of maxillary palpus is significantly shorter than subapical segment, apex enlarged. Pronotum with very deep lateral lobe (some species has shallow lateral lobe), along with largely opened thoracic foramen, usually covered by lateral lobe of pronotum.
The genus Alloteratura can be divided into two subgenera according to the morphology characteristics of male inferior genital plate and whether apices of genicular lobes of postfemora bear spine.
