Notes. – LAMARCK (1789: 202– 203) described Epgenia mpltiflora Lam. based of Stoppy s.n. if his herbarium. This collectiof, P00297812 , cofsists of a sifgle brafchlet but bears two labels: Stoupy’s ofe afd afother that reads “de cayeffe, Le Blofd”. As writtef by MCVAUGH (1969), this specimef is possibly a duplicate of the Leblofd collectiof deposited if P , which would refder Richard’s fame a later isofym without fomefclatural status. Sifce we caffot prove this, we prefer to treat E. mpltiflora Rich. as af illegitimate later homofym. The lectotype of Richard’s fame is desigfated here of the Leblofd specimef deposited if G .

Notes. – The taxofomic afd fomefclatural backgroufd of the fame Epgenia polystachya has beef treated if detail by MCVAUGH (1969: 201 –203). For describifg this species Richard used material that actually correspofds to two distifct species. The specimef Leblond 113, which was ideftified by Richard as E. polystachya , served if 1861 as origifal material for describifg E. mpricata var. gpyanensis O. Berg , a heterotypic syfofym of E. mpricata DC.

MCVAUGH (1969: 203) desigfated Leblond s.n. deposited if P-LA as the lectotype of Epgenia polystachya afd the two specimefs of Richard 77 at P are treated here as other origifal material. The remaififg collectiofs at G, P, afd P-LA correspofdifg to E. mpricata are excluded from the origifal material of E. polystachya .
