Diagnosis. Anthonympha rossica has a similar forewing pattern to that of other known species of the genus. Its wing venation is as in A. speciosa ( Moriuti, 1974: 110, Fig. 2 View FIGURES 1 – 5 ). It differs from all the other congeners by the presence of a large, dark brown spot on the distal two-fifth of forewing; by its extremely long socii whose length is almost equal to valva and slightly longer than half of aedeagus, the short, almost quadrate valva with width fourfifth of its length and the very thick aedeagus, distal part of which is almost half of the width of the valva.
Description. Adult ( Fig. 1 View FIGURES 1 – 5 ). Wingspan 11.0– 14.4 mm (n =22). Head white with smooth-scaled frons and rough-scaled vertex. Antenna about three-fourth the length of forewing, scapus mainly white with dark fuscous ring distally; 3 basal segments of flagellum dark fuscous. Basal and second joint of palpi fuscous laterally and white medially; third segment white. Thorax white, with /\–shaped mark posteriorly. Forewing elongate, relatively wide, costa gently arched, with M3 and Cu1 separate. Proximal half of forewing lustrous white, costa black at basal one-fourth and dark brown from one-fourth to middle; oblique transverse band slightly sinuate, brown in middle and edged by dark brown, arising from middle of dorsal margin to three-fourth of wing width. Distal two-fifth of forewing dark brown. Distal half of costa with alternating 5–6 white and brown strokes and each brown stroke edged by dark brown inwardly. Fringe along distal part of costa, apex and external margin are dark brown basally, whitish in median part and brownish distally; the width of whitish part is largest at the middle of termen; fringe apically elongated, projected as apical, dark brown tuft. Underside of forewing dark fuscous. Hindwing dark brown, with M3 and Cu1 stalked. Fringe dark brown along apex and distal two-third of dorsal margin, white and long at basal one-third. Underside of hindwing dark brown, with whitish anal area. Foreleg with femur and 2nd–5th segments of tarsus white, tibia and 1st segment of tarsus dark brown. Midleg with femur fuscous ventrally, tibia and tarsal segments with narrow fuscous ring, spurs white. Hindleg with white femur, tibia fuscous at distal onefourth, tarsal segments with distal fuscous ring that are disrupted ventrally. The white tuft of long hair-like scales arising from mesothoracic anepisternum and extended slightly beyond meso- and metathorax joint.
Male genitalia ( Figs 2, 3 View FIGURES 1 – 5 a–3c). Uncus rudimentary. Socii extremely long, about 4/5 length of valva, with two thorns at apex, slightly curved ventrally, wide anal conus with narrow ventral sclerotization. Gnathos absent. 9th segment ring-like, hollowed on anterior margin of dorsal side and on posterior margin ventrad socii. Valva relatively short, almost square in shape, its length (with dorso-basal process) slightly exceed width, with long dorso-basal process; both valvae joined by arched narrow transtilla; anellus membranous. Aedeagus relatively large, 1.7 times as long as valva, its distal part almost equal to half width of valva, with caecum; vesica with cornuti as two bands of small thorns.
Female genitalia ( Figs 4 View FIGURES 1 – 5 a–5b). Ovipositor short, membrane between papillae anales and posterior margin of lamella postvaginalis about half of the length of apophyses posteriores. Apophyses anteriores bifurcated at the middle, their ventral branch straight and their dorsal branch curved at an obtuse angle; their length measured along ventral branch almost equal to that of apophyses posteriores. Lamella postvaginalis narrow transverse plate, with two setose lobes on posterior margin. Antrum wide distally, slightly narrowed posteriorly, and funnel-like anteriorly. Ductus seminalis incepted just beyond antrum from ventral side, wider than ductus bursae in basal part, its inception place looking like bifurcation in lateral aspect ( Figs 5 View FIGURES 1 – 5 a, 5b, shown by arrow). Ductus bursae semisclerotized and arched at distal one-third, the rest part membranous. Corpus bursae membranous, oval, relatively small, without signum, and degenerative in some specimens.
Distribution. Russia (south of Far East).
Etymology. The specific name, rossica , is derived from Latin rossicus, refers to the country, where a new species was collected.
Remarks. The specimens collected in Furugelm Island differ from those collected in mainland by larger size of adult and thicker genital structures. The status of this population needs to be specified by additional investigation.
