Amphitritides Augener, 1922 View in CoL
Augener, 1922:47. Holthe, 1986a:104.— Hartmann-Schröder, 1996:507.— Nogueira & Hutchings, 2007:3.
Type species: Terebella gracilis Grube, 1860 , by original designation.
Diagnosis: Branchiae on segments 2–3; eyespots present or absent; lateral lappets absent; ventral shields from segment 2; 17–30 pairs of notopodia, from segment 4; notochaetae with smooth limbation, serrated distally; neuropodia from segment 5; uncini avicular in single rows on segments 5–10, thereafter in double rows, arranged face to face until posterior thorax; then, again in single rows.
Remarks: According to Holthe (1986a), of the three valid species, only one has been described from the Grand Caribbean region: A. bruneocomata ( Ehlers, 1887) , from Key West, Florida, in shallow waters to 175m. The two other species are A. gracilis ( Grube, 1860) , from the Mediterranean Sea (0–80m); and A. pectinobranchiata Hartmann-Schröder, 1965 , from Chile (84–240m). Two subsequent species, A. ithya and A. harpa were described by Hutchings and Glasby (1990) from Western Australia (3–5m) and Queensland (subtidal), respectively. Finally, Nogueira & Hutchings (2007) described A. carawa from New South Wales, Australia (in shallow water).
