Aurivillius (1904) described Bisaltes bimaculatus View in CoL based on a single specimen (he had doubts whether or not the specimen was a male) from Tatarenda in Bolivia. Monné (2022) incorrectly reported: “Type locality - Holotype: Brazil, Amazonas: Tapuruquara (Rio Negro). (MZSP).” According to Tavakilian & Chevillotte (2022), the type locality is Tatarenda, region of Chaco in Bolivia. There are two localities named Tatarenda in Bolivia: one in the department of Santa Cruz, another in the department of Tarija. Although these two places are relatively near to the Bolivian Chaco, they are not actually in the Chaco, although some authors reported it as being there (e.g. Bond & Schauensee 1943). Tatarenda in the department of Santa Cruz is located about 1300 m altitude (Subandean Zone— Husson & Moretti 2001), and Tatarenda in the department of Tarija is located about 600 m altitude (Subandean Zone— Uba et al., 2005). However, the type locality of Bisaltes bimaculatus View in CoL must be Tatarenda, Tarija, Bolivia because this is the place where Erland Nordenskîld collected (Nordenskîld 1903).
Currently, Bisaltes (B.) bimaculatus is known from Brazil (Bahia, Minas Gerais, Espírito Santo, Rio de Janeiro, S„o Paulo, Paraná, Santa Catarina), Bolivia (Santa Cruz) and Argentina (Formosa, Jujuy, Mendoza, Salta, Santa Fé, Buenos Aires) ( Monné 2022b). Duffy (1960) recorded the species from French Guiana. As far as we know, this country has never been formally excluded as a place where B. (B.) bimaculatus occurs, so it must occur there.
