Comparison. Differs from other Costa Rican species of Allophrys by the combination of the antenna with shortened flagellomeres and yellow at the apex, the dorsally incomplete occipital carina, the yellow legs and compressed mesosoma.
Description. Female. Body length 3.2 mm. Fore wing length 2.1 mm.
Head strongly and almost linearly narrowed behind eyes in dorsal view; temple half as long as eye width ( Fig. 27 View FIGURES 22 – 28 ). Mandible short, upper tooth longer than lower tooth. Clypeus small, densely punctate in upper part. Malar space 0.85 x as long as basal width of mandible. Antenna with 15 flagellomeres; subbasal flagellomeres about 1.2 x as long as broad, subapical flagellomeres distinctly transverse; flagellomeres 4–6 with conspicuous subapical finger-shaped structures on outer surface (as in Fig. 10 View FIGURES 9 – 16 ). Face finely granulate, dull, impunctate. Frons finely, shallowly granulate, very finely, sparsely punctate. Vertex with very shallow granulation centrally, smooth laterally, very finely, sparsely punctate. Temple smooth and shining, very finely, sparsely punctate. Occipital carina dorsally absent.
Mesosoma compressed laterally, 2.8 x as long as broad. Notaulus present as distinct wrinkle. Mesoscutum finely granulate, dull, laterally very finely, indistinctly punctate. Foveate groove of mesopleuron thin and long, crenulate, upcurved anteriorly. Mesopleuron very finely, shallowly granulate, punctulate. Propodeum granulate, dull, without distinct punctures, with rather coarse groove dorsally; basal part of propodeum 0.4 x as long as apical area. Distance between propodeal spiracle and pleural carina equal to 1.5 x diameter of spiracle. Apical area long, slightly pointed anteriorly; apical longitudinal carinae well-developed, complete, reaching transverse carina anteriorly.
Fore wing with vein 2 m-cu postfurcal. Vein 2 rs-m short, about as long as abscissa of M between 2 rs-m and 2 mcu. Vein Rs +2 r somewhat shorter than width of pterostigma. R 1 not reaching apex of fore wing. Hind wing with vein cu 1& cu-a distinctly reclivous (angle 45°).
Legs slender. Hind spurs curved at extreme apex. Claws moderately long, not pectinate.
First tergite slender, 4.1 x as long as posteriorly broad, round in cross-section, gradually and very weakly widened from base to apex in dorsal view, smooth (petiole partly finely striate laterally). Glymma absent. Second tergite twice as long as anteriorly broad. Thyridial depression about twice as long as broad. Ovipositor short, weakly upcurved; sheath about as long as first tergite or hind tibia.
Colour pattern as in Fig. 26 View FIGURES 22 – 28 . Head black; lower part of clypeus brownish yellow, palpi and mandible (teeth reddish) yellow. Scape and pedicel of antenna yellow, flagellum black with two apical flagellomeres yellow (third subapical flagellomere intermediate—blackish basally to yellow apically). Mesosoma black with brownish hue; propleuron, lower part of pronotum and mesopleuron reddish orange. Tegula brownish yellow. Pterostigma brown. Legs yellow to brownish yellow. First metasomal segment dark brown. Metasoma behind first tergite yellow ventrally to brown dorsally.
Male. Unknown.
Etymology. Named in honour of Dr. John S. Noyes (BMNH), authority on Chalcidoidea, who collected the type material along with tens of thousands of other Hymenoptera specimens in Costa Rica.
Material examined. Holotype female ( BMNH) Heredia Prov., La Selva Biological Station, 50 m, MT/YPT [Malaise trap/yellow pan trap], II.1991, coll. J.S. Noyes.
Paratype. 1 Ƥ ( ZISP) same data as holotype.
Distribution. Costa Rica (Heredia).
