Taxonomic notes: The pantropical genus Plusiodonta View in CoL hitherto comprises 41 species mainly distributed in the tropical and subtropical regions of the world, with few species extending into the temperate latitudes ( Behounek et al. 2017). It is exceptionally diverse in the South East Asia and the Afro-tropics. The genus extends east to Fiji and New Caledonia in the Indo-Australian tropics where few endemic species are found ( Robinson 1975, Holloway 1979). Only two species have so far been reported from India, among which P. coelonota ( Kollar, 1844) shows a wider distribution from the Palaearctic to the Indo-Australian tropics, while, the other species, P. auripicta Moore, 1882 is reported only from the North-eastern part of the country. The members of Plusiodonta View in CoL have typical forewing shape for Calpinae View in CoL and golden or silvery irregular patches or spots on varying degrees of brown background of forewing. Labial palpi are upturned with 3 rd segment noticeably narrow and sharply directed from 2 nd segment. In male genitalia, the valva is broad, especially at the distal end, with sometimes angular costal margin and sacculus bearing process from inner margin. Aedeagus is usually long with tubular or bulbous vesica which may have patches of small cornuti.
