Taxonomy. Reithrodontomys tenuirostris Merriam, 1901 View in CoL , “Todos Santos, Guatemala (altitude 10,000 ft. [= 3048 m]).”

Reithrodontomys tenuirostris is in subgenus Aporodon. Monotypic.

Distribution. Extreme SE Mexico (Chiapas State) and SC Guatemala. View Figure

Descriptive notes. Head-body 80-124 mm, tail 120-129 mm, ear 15-17 mm, hindfoot 20-25 mm; weight 18-23 g. The Narrow-nosed Harvest Mouse is one of the largest species of Reithrodontomys . Dorsal pelage is long and dense, ranging from rich orange to a more reddish color. Numerous black guard hairs give the Narrow-nosed Harvest Mouse a dark appearance. Venter is pinkish cinnamon. Eyes have black rings, and ears have a blackish shade. Skull is characterized by long narrow nasal bones, in contrast to other species of Reithrodontomys .

Habitat. Wet, temperate habitats, such as evergreen cloud forests, generally at elevations of 2800-2910 m.

Food and Feeding. No information.

Breeding. No information.

Activity patterns. The Narrow-nosed Harvest Mouse is presumably nocturnal and might be semi-arboreal or even arboreal.

Movements, Home range and Social organization. No information.

Status and Conservation. Classified as Vulnerable on The IUCN Red List.
