Peromyscus salvadorensis View in CoL

French: Péromyscus du Salvador / German: El-Salvador-Hirschmaus / Spanish: Raton ciervo de El Salvador

Taxonomy. Peromyscus mexicanus salvadorensis Dickey, 1928 View in CoL , Los Esemiles, 8000 ft. (= 2438 m), Chatatenango, El Salvador.

Peromyscus salvadorensis is in the mexicanus species group. It was initially described as a subspecies of P. mexicanus but later placed in synonymy with P. mexicanus saxatilis. Recent DNA studies suggest that parts of what historically have been recognized as P. m. saxatilis should be considered as P. salvadorensis or P. nicaraguae .

Monotypic.
