Taxonomy. Akodon josemariarguedasi Jimeénez, Pacheco & Vivas, 2013 , “Galloganan, Ambo, Huanuco, Peru, 3420 m.”

Akodon josemariarguedasi was separated from A. orophilus in 2013. Monotypic.

Distribution. Huanuco Department S of Rio Huallaga, WC Peru.

Descriptive notes. Head-body 100 mm, tail 89 mm, ear 15-6 mm, hindfoot 22-8 mm. No specific data are available for body weight. Arguedas’s Grass Mouse is a medium-sized species of Akodon . Dorsum is brownish olive, contrasting with smoky gray to whitish venter; fur has hairs with paler gray bases; and tail is dark and moderately countershaded. Chromosomal complement is 2n = 22, FN = 40.

Habitat. Montane cloud forest at elevations of 2900-3800 m.

Food and Feeding. Arguedas’s Grass Mouse is insectivorous and primarily eats adult beetles.
