Didogobius bentuvii , holotype, female, 36.5 mm SL, Mediterranean coast of Israel BMNH 1965. 2. 1. 1.
Description. Body elongate and laterally compressed; head variously depressed; head without scales; predorsal region naked or with a few small scales; body scales all cycloid or cycloid anteriorly, becoming ctenoid posteriorly; anterior nostril tubular, without process or tentacle from rim; pectoral girdle without flaps on anterior edge; pectoral fins with uppermost rays not free or with tips only slightly projecting from the membrane.
Head canals present or absent; if absent, pores generally replaced by enlarged papilla, especially within anterior head canal region with pores B, C, E, F; sensory papillae in a transverse pattern with six vertical rows; row 7 next to pore F or replacement papillae with 1 to several papillae; vertical row 6 i under row b, extending below the level of row d; dorsal rows n, g, m and o present in all except D. bentuvii where row m “was not found”; suborbital row a absent.
