Gasteruption goberti (Tournier, 1877)

Diagnosis: A large species, females reach 15–20 mm body length, ovipositor length is 17.8–21.9 mm. Males are 14–19 mm long. The ovipositor sheath is 5.2–6.8× long as third tibia, with whitish apex 1.0–1.5× as long as third basitarsus. This species has a medial depression in the occipital carina but the depression is usually smaller and less conspicuous than that of G. caucasicum . The head is elongated behind the compound eyes and the sculpture of the head is shiny and finely punctate. The pronotal carina is small in contrast to G. caucasicum and Gasteruption laticeps . Third tibia and tarsus are black with dark-reddish marks and lack of whitish spot subbasally.

Distribution: Mediterranean species occurring in southern Europe, reaching central Europe with the north border of distribution. Recorded from the following countries: Bulgaria, Croatia, France, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Montenegro, Russia, Slovenia, Switzerland and Turkey ( Ferrière 1946; Pagliano & Scaramozzino 2000; Strumia & Pagliano 2014; van Achterberg 2019; Madl & Mitroiu 2019, and personal records). van Achterberg & Talebi (2014) and Özbek (2020) recorded this species from Turkey and Caucasus.

Šedivý (1958, 1989) reported this species from Moravia (east part of the Czech Republic) from Ubušín (1 f*) and two unlocalised specimens. We have recorded two specimens of G. caucasicum without the locality label identified as G. goberti . Though I did not find any specimens of G. goberti from the Czech Republic and Slovakia, older specimens were likely erroneously identified and this species does not occur in both countries.

Biology: Recorded from June to August. Hosts and plants visited are unknown, in Greece it was recorded on Ferulago (Apiaceae) in the beginning of July (personal observations).

Conservation: Not applicable; not a member of fauna of the Czech Republic and Slovakia.
