Muscina prolapsa ( Harris, 1780) View in CoL ( Fig. 15 View FIGURE )

Musca prolapse Harris, 1780: 139 . According to Chandler (1998: 174) the name prolapse has been used in error.

Muscina pabulorum ( Fallén, 1817: 252) View in CoL is a synonym of M. prolapsa ( Harris 1780) View in CoL .

Specimens examined. 2m, Asir, Abha, Hay Al-Nusub (Abha farm centre), 20.iv.2013, Malaise trap, H.A. Dawah ( CERS) ; 1m, same data but 12.ii.2014 ( CERS) .

Distribution. New to Saudi Arabia. This species was described without type-locality being specific. In the Middle East it has been recorded from Egypt, Iraq and Israel ( Pont 1986).

Biological remarks. Bernhardt et al. (2016) reported that all buried rat carcasses were heavily infested by the larvae of M. prolapsa and that the development of M. prolapsa is temperature dependent and is, therefore, useful for calculating the post-mortem interval.
