Diagnosis: Shell medium to large, very long and slender, umbos subterminal ( Cultellus ) or terminal ( Ensis ); hinge with 1 to 4 cardinal teeth; gaping at both ends, eulamelibranch gills fused, short or long. For differences with Solenidae see “Comparison” under Solenidae .
