Anthidium (Anthidium) rufitarse Friese, 1917 View in CoL
Anthidium rufitarse Friese, 1917: 51 View in CoL , ♀; Rasmussen & Ascher, 2008: 93.
Diagnosis: A definitive diagnosis is not currently possible. Brief notes on the type female made during a 2010 visit to the Museum für Naturkunde Berlin confirm its assignment to subgenus Anthidium and provide some diagnostics: longitudinal carina on hind tibia absent, forebasitarsus with sparse short hairs that do not obscure the surface, all legs with dark femur and tibia and contrasting red tarsi, apical margin of T6 laterally with carina but no tooth, supraclypeal area impunctate. Additional, potentially diagnostic characters from the description include: head all dark except for a small light mark dorsally on the gena or laterally on the vertex, clypeal margin smooth, scutellum rounded and not produced, scopa reddish-yellow
Material examined: No specimens examined.
Type locality: China: central China (likely Gansu) .
Distribution: China (Gansu).
Floral association: unknown.
Remarks: It is possible that A. rufitarse is the same as A. pseudophilorum , sp. nov. described here. They appear to share the same red tarsi and similar T6. Friese (1917) recorded the holotype only as from central China, but did not provide an accurate locality; we suspect that it pertains to Gansu Province of China which would be adjacent to provinces where A. pseudophilorum is found.
