14. Polygala cyparissias Saint-Hilaire & Moquin-Tandon (1828: 47) View in CoL . Lectotype (designated here): — BRAZIL. Santa Catarina: Penha, Armação de Itapocoróia, "prope Armaçaó [SIC] d'Itapocoroia" ( Saint-Hilaire, 1829), April 1820, A.Saint-Hilaire C2 1735 (P 733428!, iso-lectotypes P 733429!, P 733430!). Polygala multicaulis Vellozo (1829: 294) , nom. illeg., non P. multicaulis Tausch (1821: 563) , syn. nov. Lectotype

(designated here): — BRAZIL. Rio de Janeiro: " Habitat campis apricis mediterraneis ". November 1783 –1790.

Iconograph: Vellozo (1831: tab. 71).

Taxonomic notes:— The iconograph of P. multicaulis (tab. 71) is inadequate and useless for identification. Based on its original description, which describes the roots as turnip form, the red stems, and a characteristic habitat associated with oceanic vegetation, I have no doubt about including this name under the synonymy of P. cyparissias .
