REMARKS. It is important to stress that Stål (1855: 240 and 241) described Lethocerus niloticus and L. patruelis as Belostoma niloticum and B. patruele , respectively. Although the heading of the article reports “1854”, the volume of the 11th year (1854) was published in 1855 (see last line of the cover page). So, the year of description for these species is here corrected. All the taxa described in that paper must be dated 1855, while the year of description of other taxa described by C. Stål in other volumes of the same journal should be verified.
