References: Giffen (1975), p. 83; Navarro (1983a), p. 123, figs 82, 83; Al-Handal et al. (2016), p. 25, pl. 9, fig. 9.
Samples: Moen4_ Halimeda View in CoL
Dimensions: 24.5 μm long, 10.0 μm wide; 27 striae in 10 μm.
Diagnostics: Valve elliptic with moderately rounded apices. Raphe filiform, proximal ends expanded. Lyre distinct.
Comments: Our specimen is close to F. forcipata sensu lato (s.l.). But the range of stria densities in F. forcipata s.l. is diverse: 13 in 10 μm ( Peragallo & Peragallo 1897 –1908); 15–19 ( Giffen 1975); 19–20 ( Navarro 1983a); 13–16(22) ( Witkowski et al. 2000); 24–26 (Al-Handal et al. 2016) – none as high as 27. For certain identification of this species, the SEM examination is essential.
