Kiwaia (Empista) dryosyrta (Meyrick, 1931) View in CoL comb. n.

( Figs 1 View FIGURES 1 – 10 , 28 View FIGURES 28 – 35 )

Gelechia dryosyrta Meyrick, 1931: 58 View in CoL .

Gnorimoschema dryosyrta (Meyrick, 1931) : Clarke, 1969: 151, Pl. 75, figs 1–1b.

Material examined. " Type ", " Telphusa dryosyrta Meyr. , 1/1, E. Meyrick det., in Meyrick Coll.", "Karponang, Sikkim, 9000', B., 6.28", "♂, genitalia on slide 28.x.1948, J.F.G.C. 8252" ( BMNH).

Description. Adult ( Fig. 1 View FIGURES 1 – 10 ): Wingspan 16.0 mm. Head brown, frons ligh-brown to grey; labial palpus up curved, brown motled with black, inner surface of segment 2 lighter, segment 3 about 1.5 times narrower and shorter than segment 3, acute; scapus black, other segments brown with grey rings; thorax and tegulae black; forewing dark, brown to black, black scales concentrated mainly along costal and dorsal margins, central area of forewing slightly ligther, mottled with grey and brown; indistinct four black dots in cell; diffuse grey subapical fascia on 3/4; cilia grey black-tipped; hindwing dark grey.

Male genitalia ( Fig. 28 View FIGURES 28 – 35 ): Uncus prolonged, weakly narrowed apically, posterior margin rounded; gnathos long, evenly curved, sickle-shaped; tegumen comparatively long with deep anteromedial emargination; valva weakly curved, about of equal width, weakly dilated apically, reaching the top of uncus; sacculus narrow, tapered, weakly curved, about 1/3 as long as valva; tegumen slightly broader than long, posteromedial emargination broadly rounded; vincular processes broadly rounded, shorter than sacculus, separated from sacculus by broad gap; saccus moderately broad, tapered apically; phallus curved at abtuse ungle, caecum weakly inflated, distal portion sclerotised along one margin and terminated in short tooth, apical arm big, down-curved.

Female unknown.

Remarks. The species is similar externally to K. (E.) palaearctica , but the head is lighter, the forewing are broader and darker. As far as one can judge from the lateral view the male genitalia look somewhat similar to those of K. (E.) palaearctica in having narrow tapered sacculus, but the vincular processes are rounded rather than pointed, and the apical arm of the phallus is larger and differs in the shape.

Biology. The holotype has been collected late October at the altitude of about 2700 m.

Distribution. NE India (Sikkim).

Notes. Gelechia dryosyrta was described from a single male collected in North-Eastern India. The adult of holotype, its male genitalia in lateral view and the label were illustrated by Clarke (1969). Additional material from the type locality including female is required to provide clearer diagnosis and clarify the position of K. (E.) dryosirta within Kiwaia .
