Dichanthium foulkesii (Hook.f.) S.K.Jain & Deshp. View in CoL ( Jain & Deshpande 1978: 134). ( Fig. 2 View FIGURE 2 ).
Basionym:— Andropogon foulkesii Hook. View in CoL f. ( Hooker 1897: 174).
Lectotype (designated here):— INDIA. Tamil Nadu: Nilghiries; Kaity, 1850, Foulkes T. s.n. [ K000245669 ( K, image!)].
Note:— While describing Andropogon foulkesii Hook. f. ( Hooker 1897) cited three gatherings in the protologue [Nilghiri hills, Wight; Kaity, Foulkes; Pykora, King]. Attempts were made to locate the original material at K, as well as at CAL, BSI, and MH. We could find specimens at K and CAL by Wight ( K000245670 ), Foulkes ( K000245669 ) and King ( K0001057471 , CAL0000002310 About CAL , CAL0000002311 About CAL ). One of the specimens viz. Foulkes (Tamil Nadu, Nilgiris , Kaity , 1850, Foulkes T. s.n. [ K000245669 ]) is designated here as the lectotype, as it agrees well with the protologue, it is complete and has stamped Herbarium Hookerianum 1867. The remaining collections by Wight and King are comparatively incomplete as these are without roots .
