Genus Rallus Linnaeus, 1758 View in CoL

We refer the specimens of the new species to the genus Rallus (rather than Pardirallus , Porzana , Gallinula , Porphyrio , or Fulica ) based on characters presented in Steadman et al. (2013), Zelenkov et al. (2017), and the following characters. Humerus: margo caudalis more distinct; more rounded proximo-caudal surface of shaft; in caudal aspect, less prominent tuberculum supracondylare ventrale (except in Porphyrio and Fulica .) Ulna: shaft relatively narrower, especially in ventral aspect (except in Pardirallus ); depression between trochlea humeralis ulnaris and tuberculum ligamentum collateralis ventralis deeper. Femur: no consistent generic-level characters noted; referral based on size. Tibiotarsus: in cranial aspect, crista cnemialis lateralis much wider than long, with less bulbous cranial surface (except in Porzan a); cranio-medial and cranio-lateral margins of shaft more rounded; sulcus muscularis fibularis deeper. Tarsometatarsus (not available in Pardirallus ): less concave proximo-acrotarsial surface of shaft; more rounded acrotarsial-medial and acrotarsial-lateral margins of shaft, especially in distal portion; more bulbous (convex) surface of acrotarsial-distal part of shaft supporting trochlea metatarsi III.
