Neoperla similiserecta Wang & Li View in CoL , sp. nov.

( Figs. 10–14 View FIGURES 5 – 10 View FIGURES 10 – 12 View FIGURES 13 – 14 )

Male. Forewing length 9.2 mm, hindwing length 7.9 mm. General body color brownish yellow. Distance between ocelli barely as wide as diameter of the ocellus. Head slightly wider than pronotum, with a small brown droplet-like ocellar patch and a triangular patch on anterior part of frons ( Fig. 10 View FIGURES 5 – 10 ); compound eyes dark; antennae brownish. Pronotum brownish yellow with lateral margins and medial suture darker ( Fig. 10 View FIGURES 5 – 10 ); wing membrane hyaline, veins brownish; legs yellowish. Abdomen brownish, hemiterga darker.

Terminalia . Processes of tergum 7 small, rounded and upraised, margined with several small sensilla basiconica ( Fig. 13 View FIGURES 13 – 14 ). Tergum 8 with a medial hump, covered with small spines. Tergum 9 without sensilla patches. Hemitergal processes of tergum 10 curved medially ( Fig. 13 View FIGURES 13 – 14 ). Aedeagal tube plump, slightly sclerotized but dorsal surface heavily sclerotized, with a pair of small rounded ventral process medially and a single dorsal process apically. Aedeagal sac a little longer than tube, with apex slightly expanded, ventrally oriented, nearly forming a right angle with the tube; sac armed in most area with small spines and granules, spines larger and evident medially ( Figs. 11–12 View FIGURES 10 – 12 , 14 View FIGURES 13 – 14 ).

Female. Unknown.

Type Material. Holotype: male, China: Guangdong Province, Xinfeng County, Mt. Yunjishan, 24.0875 N, 114.1719 E, light trap, 2003. VIII.18, X.Y. Liu.

Etymology. The specific epithet refers to the similarity to the closely related species, N. erecta Stark & Sivec, 2008 .

Distribution. China (Guangdong Province).

Diagnosis and remarks. Neoperla similiserecta is characterized by the male aedeagal tube with a pair of small rounded ventral processes medially and a single dorsal process apically. The aedeagal sac has slightly expanded apex and is ventrally oriented, nearly forming a right angle with the tube; sac armed area with small spines and granules, spines larger and evident medially ( Figs. 14 View FIGURES 13 – 14 , 11–12 View FIGURES 10 – 12 ). The new species has the type of aedeagal sac similar to that of N. melanocephala (Navas) (sensu Zwick 1988) and N. erecta . Neoperla similiserecta appears to be related to N. erecta , a species known from Lao Cai Province of northern Vietnam sharing similar terminalia and aedeagal structures. However, in N. erecta ( Stark and Sivec 2008, fig 25), the aedeagal tube lacks a pair of ventral processes medially, and the sac has a rounded lateral hump that is absent in N. similiserecta .
