Dysopes dubius Peters, 1852 , nomen dubium
Peters, W.C.H. (1852) Naturwissenschaftliche Reise nach Mossambique, auf Befehl seiner Majestät des Königs Friedrich Wilhelm IV. in den Jahren 1842 bis 1848 ausgeführt. Berlin, p. 60. Nec Nyctinomus dubius A. Smith 1833 .
Valid name: Chaerephon pumilus (Cretzschmar, 1830)
Holotype: ZMB 85539 (old number = An 16357), skull, pullus; Sena, Mozambique; collected by W.C.H. Peters, between 1843 and 1847.
Comment: For a long time the identity of this taxon followed its name, and no other African molossid was ever identified with D. dubius . Peters’ species description on the pullus specimen ZMB 85539 (see figure 5 View FIGURE 5 ) is very questionable, so dubius is more appropriately a nomen dubium.
