Valid name: Chiroderma villosum Peters, 1860

Type species of genus Chiroderma Peters, 1860 .

Lectotype (here designated): ZMB 408 View Materials , skin, skull not extracted, female adult; Brazil; collected by Sellow.

Comment: According to Peters (1860: 754) a further specimen, a skeleton, existed in the Anatomical collection [formerly an institution separate from ZMB]. The whereabouts of the second specimen is unknown; therefore we designate ZMB 408 View Materials as lectotype. Cabrera (1958: 85) cited “ Venezuela ” as the type locality .
