Low, branched shrub, mat-forming. Young woody stems ribbed, glabrous or hairy within the furrows, herbaceous stems hairy, appressed sericeous. Leaves alternate, simple, the basal ones obovate, the middle ones elliptic (5–)6(–8) × (1.6–)2(–2.5) mm in fertile stems, (5.2–)9.3(–15) × (1.7–)2.2(–2.8) mm in sterile stems, the flower-subtending leaves (2.5–)4.5(–7) × (0.7–)1.4(–1.8) mm, with appressed sericeous hairs on lower surface, upper glabrous or rarely with very few hairs. Flowers in congested terminal racemes with 2–5 flowers or sometimes borne singly. Bracteoles hairy, very short (0.2–)0.6(–1.8) mm. Pedicels 1–5 mm with erect-patent hairs. Calyx (4.2–)5.1(–6.3) mm, hairy, upper teeth (1.8–)2.6(–3.2) mm, lower teeth (0.7–)1.1(–1.9) mm. Corolla yellow; standard (9.1–)10.3(–11.2) × (6.8–)7.8(–8.8) mm, broadly ovate, sericeous on back, claw (1.8–)2.3(–2.7) mm, basal half (5.4–)6.2(–7) mm; wings (8.8–)10.2(–12.2) × (1.9–)2.4(–3.1) mm, glabrous with ciliate basal margin, claw (2–)2.2(–2.8) mm; keel (9–)9.8(–10.7) × (2.1–)2.3(– 2.7) mm, sericeous on back, claw (2.1–)2.4(–3) mm. Stigma introrse. Legume (11–)16(–20) × (3.2–)3.8(–4.6) mm, hairy, 1–4 seeded. Seeds (2–)2.6(–3.1) × (1.7–)2.2(–2.7) mm, lens shaped, brown to dark brown.
Etymology: ―The name of the subspecies derives from the more rigid branches compared with G. sericea s.s.
Chromosome number:―2n = 48 + 0–4B.
Habitat: ―Rocky slopes, calcareous substrate, in the coenoses Carici-Centaureetum rupestris Horvat 1931 ( Trinajstić 1987) and Stipo-Salvietum officinalis Horvatić 1958 em. Poldini 1989 .
Phenology: ―Flowering (late April) May–July.
Distribution: ―C and S-Croatia (Dalmatia), Bosnia-Herzegovina, Montenegro, Albania ( Fig. 2 View FIGURE 2 ).
