Description. Forewings 2.2 times longer than wide, length about 6.1 mm. Colour stramineous to light brown; clypeus and apical part of frons tinted with orange. Forewings colourless, with bands of faint infuscations along most veins and margins; the band along the anterior apical cross-veins slightly darker; three small infuscated marks around the junction of Cu1 and the apical cross-vein to Cu. Hindwings colourless. Facial carinae contiguous up to lower margin of eyes; rostrum not reaching hind coxae; subantennal processes well -, lateral carinae of pronotum little developed. Forewings with costal margin and apical section of Sc slightly sinuate; Sc+R fork at end of basal third of wing; Ms1 branched in its basal third, Ms1b touching apical section of Cu1, a small triangle at base of Ms1. Pygofer of male genitalia with a pair of triangular lateral projections. Genital styles widening towards its end, which is truncate; proximal dorsal process short, a small hump at its base; distal dorsal process elongated. Apical part of aedeagus ending in two short, flat lobes, which are rounded in side view.
Etymology. The species is named for the collector and ' spenceri ' is a latinized noun used in the genitive case.
Type material. Holotype ♂ (forewing 6.1 mm, body 3.9 mm), VIETNAM; labels: 1) VIETNAM: Mt. Lang / Bian, 1500–2000 m / 19.V.–8.VI.1961 2) Malaise Trap 3) N. R. Spencer/Collector ( BPBM).
Distribution. Vietnam.
Diagnosis. Rhotana spenceri is characterized by its large size and the three small dark marks on the forewings, around the middle of Cu1.
