Sloths ( Bradypodidae View in CoL and Megalonychidae )

The taxonomy of Recent sloths remains unrevised, and the current application of names is based on decades-old conventions that are now being challenged by molecular analyses. Morphological examination of available specimens from the Yavarí-Ucayali interfluve suggest that only a single species each of Bradypus (threetoed sloths, Bradypodidae ) and Choloepus (twotoed sloths, Megalonychidae ) occur here, although a second species of Choloepus might also be expected.
