Acosmetura compressa sp. nov., Chinese name AED̈xdz
( Figs. 1–2 View FIGURE 1 View FIGURE 2 , Map. 1 View MAP 1 )
Description. Male. Body small and stout. Fastigium verticis conical with apex rounded, dorsal surface with a median sulcus. Eyes globular, protruding forwards. Apical segment of maxillary palpus nearly as long as subapical one, apex slightly swollen.
Pronotum comparatively short, reaching posterior margin of first abdominal tergite, anterior margin nearly straight, metazona slightly raised and posterior margin rounded; lateral lobe longer than deep, narrowing, humeral sinus absent.
Tegmen short, reaching middle area of second abdominal tergite, apex rounded; hind wing absent.
All femora unarmed on ventral surfaces, genicular lobes with apices rounded. Procoxa with a spine; tibia with 5 pairs of ventral spines, apical spine shorter than the others; tibial tympana open on both sides. Meso-tibia with 5 spines on inner margin and 5 or 6 spines on outer margin of ventral surface, apical spine shorter than the others. Post-tibia with 24–27 spines on both margins of dorsal surface respectively, apex with 1 pair of dorsal spurs and 2 pairs of ventral spurs.
Ninth abdominal tergite with lateral area strongly elongated, apex incurved. Tenth abdominal tergite slightly extended, posterior margin with a arched notch in the middle. Cercus slender, basal area with a small lamellar extension along dorsal margin; third basal area curved upwards and inwards; inner margin of middle area with a longitudinal shallow concavity; apex rounded. Genitalia sclerotized, exposed and compressed, apex obtuse. Subgenital plate nearly trapezoidal, basal area slightly broad, basal margin with a V-shaped concavity while posterior margin nearly straight; with tubercular styli inserted on ventral surface near lateral areas of apical area.
Female. Appearance is similar to that of male. Pronotum shorter, reaching anterior margin of first abdominal tergite. Tegmen not overlapping on inner margins; hind wing absent. Cercus long conical, apex rounded. Ovipositor with base stout, narrowing, apical half moderately upcurved, dorsal margin smooth and apical area of ventral margin with some blunt teeth. Subgenital plate with base broader, posterior margin nearly truncate.
Coloration. Body green when alive, yellowish green when dried and pinned. Eyes brown. Area after eyes with a longitudinal yellow stripe separately. Disc of pronotum with a pair of longitudinal and almost parallel yellow stripes, the inner margin of yellow stripe with a brown stripe. Dorsal surface of abdomen with a longitudinal light brown stripe along the midline. The area along edge of the notch of posterior margin of male tenth abdominal tergite brown. Apex of ovipositor brown.
Material examined. Holotype: ♂, Yangmingshan, Shuangpai, Hunan, China, 3 August, 2023, coll. Chun Chen. Paratypes: 4♀, Yangmingshan, Shuangpai, Hunan, China, 3 August, 2023, coll. Chun Chen & Hao Xu ; 1♀, Yangmingshan, Shuangpai, Hunan, China, 5 August, 2023, coll. Hao Xu.
Measurements (mm). Body (the distance from apex of fastigium verticis to posterior margin of tenth abdominal tergite): ♂ 8.9, ♀ 8.9–10.0; pronotum (the distance from anterior to posterior margins of pronotum in the midline): ♂ 4.3, ♀ 3.8–4.2; tegmen (the distance from the base to the apex of visible part of tegmen): ♂ 1.4, ♀ 0.4–1.5; postfemur (the distance from the base of postfemur to the apex of genicular lobe): ♂ 10.0, ♀ 9.6–10.3; ovipositor (the distance from the base of subgenital plate to the apex of ovipositor): 6.9–7.6.
Distribution. China (Hunan).
Discussion. This new species resembles Acosmetura longicercata Liu, Zhou & Bi, 2008 , but differs in: Male tenth abdominal tergite short, the middle of posterior margin with a arched notch; near base and subapex of cercus not twisted; genitalia compressed, apex obtuse; base of female subgenital plate without lateral projections.
Etymology. The name of the new species is derived from Latin ‘ compress- ’, referring to the male genitalia compressed.
