This tick has been found in Argentina, Belize, Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Costa Rica, French Guiana, Guatemala, Honduras, South of Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Trinidad and Tobago, Uruguay and Venezuela, ( Onofrio et al. 2006; Lopez 2017). It feeds on Xenarthra species, especially on armadillos ( Guglielmone et al. 2003). In Colombia, it has been reported on Dasypodidae , Dasypus novemcinctus (Armadillo) and Canis familiaris in San Marcos, Department of Sucre ( Contreras Ortega 2016; Lopez 2017). The importance of this species, in relation to its biology and ecology, is yet to be studied.
